Remembering Gary Liljegren
From LEE CARROLL
It's sad when you lose a friend, and I just found out that Gary Liljegren, my best friend of over 30 years, recently passed. I'll bet some of you will remember him from some very old KRYON days … some Kryon cruises, and even some Florida "Kryon at Home" meetings.
Gary and his wife, Jan, first hosted me in their home in Florida in February 1997 and have hosted over 20 times since then! In fact, Gary holds the record for "most hostings of Kryon meetings" anywhere.
Gary created the original kryon.org website in the spring of 1997 and started sending out "Marshmallow Messages” that were immensely popular and continued up until a few years ago. These messages were a testament to Gary’s in-depth knowledge of the Kryon work and his genuine passion to inspire and uplift others. Gary had a Kryon meeting group that met in Melbourne, Florida, where he lived. A few years ago, I showed up and surprised them all! What fun that was.
Through the years Gary personally took me to see almost every city in that beautiful state - both coasts, and even the swamp!
Gary was a nerd like me. From 1963 to 1967, he was a computer programmer and systems analyst for the Air Force Systems Command stationed at Andrews AFB in MD. He told me that his main remembrance was when he and a few others on base were allowed to view the Air Force One hangar, when the aircraft returned after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The plane landed with the president's body, as well as Jackie Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson on board. It was a poignant moment.
Gary had an amazing hobby, and some might say love-affair with HAM radio…
Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, was Gary's main fun & his expertise. In many places where he lived, he had a receiver and transmitter located in the basement or in a spare room, using a wire antenna in the backyard, often with one end up in a tree. In his later years, he hid the antenna illegally inside the flagpole in his front yard in an "over 50 living" community. They never knew!
He told me that he had spent a lifetime talking with folks in countries all over the world. In fact, he lists Tibet, Australia, China, South Pole/Antarctica, Pitcairn Island, Iceland, Croatia, Mozambique, Spitzbergen, and so on, to the tune of 270 different countries!
Gary was one of the early users of Ham radio, and could “code” as fast as people could type! I watched him translate incoming dots and dashes as fast as he could listen and talk. That talent is no longer needed in this technical day and age, but he was doing it “the original way” right up until the end.
This was my good friend, and I will miss him greatly. Recently, Gary lost Jan, his wife of 40+ years, and last week we lost him. They are together now.
Please send energy to his two children and his grandchildren. Monika and I are so grateful to have known this wonderful Old Soul and his family in this lifetime.
Thank you, Gary, for illuminating our life with your light!
